This project consisted of replacing the aged lighting in Gyms 1, 2 and 3 with new LED
High Bay Lighting at the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Campus.

Existing metal halide High Bay HID fixtures were removed and recycled.  A total of 430 new light emitting diode (LED) fixtures were installed in the gymnasiums.  The new lighting system increased lighting levels in the space while substantially decreasing energy usage.

Project Features:

  • This lighting retrofit was estimated to save the University of Illinois as much as $70,000 in the first fiscal year.
  • The increased lifespan of LED bulbs will mean less annual maintenance costs and fewer times a lift will need to be used replace bulbs.
  • The new lighting controls system will allow for additional switching levels in each of the gymnasiums.
